October 13, 2020 came as a bad news for the users who were using Office 2010 and 2016 on their Mac. However, this is not the case with Office 2016 and 2019 for Windows as it will continue to have a life until any new announcements are made by the team of Microsoft. Apart from this, on October 13, the new iPhone was released for users but at the same time Mac users felt a little heartbroken.
With this end of support for Office 2010 and Office 2016 for Mac, the users won’t receive any future updates for the same. Also, they will not see any bug fixes or patch along with no official support from Microsoft. Although you can continue to use it even after this announcement, but you won’t get any additional services for the same.
This simply means that Microsoft wants its Mac users to switch to other versions of Office available at office.com/setup. They can either choose Office 2019 or Microsoft 365. This will bring back all the experiences to their lives that they had with prior versions of Office. The news brought a chaos among such users as they are being warned of incomplete features and end of support, fixes, ad updates.
In February 2018, Microsoft made an announcement saying that the businesses need to shift to Office 365 Pro Plus or Office 2019 if they wish to access all the essential features of Office services. At that time, people revolted back by posting feedback to Microsoft. This action of people instigated Microsoft to allow users to use Office 2016 and Microsoft 365 till the end of 2023.
Important dates to note down
October 13, 2020 is the date for the end of support for Office 2010 Service Pack 2, Office 2010 Personal, Professional, Professional Plus and Professional Academic and Home and Business. Also, on April 11, 2023 Office 2013 on Windows will see its end of support. Apart from this, on October 14, 2025, Microsoft is ending its support for Office 2016 Professional and other variants of Office 2016.”office.com/setup“
Will there be a newer version of Office?
Those who got disheartened with this news can cheer up now as Microsoft will be releasing a perpetual version of Office in the later part of 2021. This will not be a subscription based plan but will be available for the lifetime use.
Many people are guessing that its name would be Office 2022 as happened with the previous versions of Office. In addition to this, we will also get to see another version of its on-premises Office servers. This will also be released in the second half of next year. However, to use this, users will have to purchase a mandatory subscription without which getting its updates and Microsoft support will be impossible.
So, if you are also a user of older version of Office, then you should switch to one of its newer versions so as to continue using Microsoft www.Office.com/setup.
